Digital photos don't usually take up too much hard disk space. But in the situation in which you are a passionate photographer and have a large number of photos stored on your computer or you are a webmaster and want to design a photo website, then you may need a lot of storage space to be able to store all those JPEG photos. This problem can be easily solved by installing the jStrip application.

This Windows program basically removes unneeded data from photos and lowers their size, without degrading quality. jStrip does not re-compress JPEG photos, it just removes useless data from them, which cannot be displayed by web browsers or image viewers. After installing and launching the application, the user will be presented with a simple and intuitive interface, which just requires the user to define the location where the photos are stored.

The location can be any folder on the hard disk. After setting up the path to the photos, the program will automatically start processing the photos and will display details about this process in real-time. After the process is complete, a summary will be displayed, including the total number of modified photos and the hard disk space which is saved by using the application.

What's more, a log file can be displayed at any moment, containing complete details regarding each processed photo. In this way, by reading the log, the user will be able to spot any possible errors. Advanced users can access the configuration area of jStrip, which allows customizing its functionality and choosing what parts of a JPEG file the program should remove.

Pros

It can reduce the size of any JPEG photo, by removing unwanted elements from it, without re-compressing the image or reducing its quality. Besides that, several photos can be processed at the same time. Furthermore, users can customize the process.

Cons

Some options may not be understood by inexperienced computer users. Using jStrip, you will be able to easily reduce the size of all your JPEG photos, by removing unwanted and unneeded elements from them.
